Originally launched in Norway in 1919 as M/S Fanefjord, this sturdy wooden vessel began life as a coastal trading ship, transporting cargo throughout Europe and as far north as Greenland.Its story took a remarkable turn in 1933 when renowned Australian explorer Sir Hubert Wilkins selected the ship for Antarctic exploration on behalf of American explorer Lincoln Ellsworth.
