Featuring artwork by Dena Gower, this set of scrunchies celebrates the beauty, wildlife, and spirit of Noongar Boodja (Noongar Country). Inspired by the Country where Dena grew up, the design reflects the deep connection she carries with her through memories of family, community, and time spent on Country.
Raised on Wilman Country in Narrogin, Dena's childhood was filled with exploring creeks for joolgies (freshwater crayfish), gathering mushrooms and berries, spotting booyi (turtles), and spending time outdoors with family and friends. These experiences, and her strong connection to the plants and animals of Noongar Country, continue to inspire her vibrant and playful artwork today.
Now based in Rubibi (Broome), Dena continues her artistic practice through Nagula Jarndu, drawing on her cultural heritage and family stories while creating expressive contemporary designs.
