Announced in October 1977, the HZ was Holden's fourth and final revision of the original HQ series and was to be the last full-size model before the introduction of the smaller Commodore. The Basic HZ Kingswood sedan and station wagon were sold alongside the better equipped Kingswood SL model, which featured a radio, and electric clock, remote drivers side rear view mirror, and tinted laminated windscreen fitted as standard.
The SL could also be distinguished externally by the addition of a chrome protective side moulding. The Kingswood captured the heart of a nation during the 70's, becoming and Aussie icon, thanks in part to a TV show named in its honour.
