This elegant 7.5" Fine Bone China Plate features a detail from Untitled by May Mayiwalku (May Wokka) Chapman, reproduced with the courtesy of Martumili Artists.
Presented in a gift box, the plate includes information about both the artist and the artwork, making it a meaningful gift or display piece that celebrates contemporary First Nations art.
Martumili Artists represents Martu people from the communities of Newman, Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu, Kunawarritji, Irrungadji and Warralong in Western Australia. The artists are the Traditional Custodians of vast areas of the Great Sandy, Little Sandy and Gibson Deserts, as well as the Karlamilyi (Rudall River) region. Their works reflect deep cultural knowledge, lived experience, and enduring connections to Country.
Most Martu people maintained a traditional nomadic desert lifestyle until the 1950s and 1960s, when many moved into settlements following a prolonged drought. Today, Martu communities continue to maintain strong cultural connections to Country while living across remote communities and regional centres.
