Featuring Mingkiri Tjuta Tjukurpa (Marsupial Mouse Dreaming) artwork by Aboriginal artist Rama, this beautifully handcrafted cushion cover shares the story of the marsupial mice near Kuntjanu, the artist's Country in remote north-western South Australia.
The artwork depicts the many burrows where the mingkiri (marsupial mice) live, showing them digging with their mulya (noses) to block the entrances to their homes. The story is connected to a larger network of Tjukurpa (Dreaming stories), including the Wanampi Tjukurrpa (Rainbow Serpent Dreaming), where many ancestral stories come together, or tjungu. Within this story are the Wanampi, Kuniya (python), and Liru (snake) ancestral beings, all connected through Country and culture.
The intricate embroidery brings this important cultural story to life while adding colour, texture, and meaning to any living space.
