The paintings of Emily Kame Kngwarreye represent a unified world of art that was realised through the production of some 3000 works over a short, eight-year period.
Emily began painting at about 78 years of age and continued working until her death. At the time Emily began making art, she was already able to express the planarity of the canvas and unique, moulded space in the painting.
Her art appears miraculous for its independently derived, contemporary style of expression, which directly confronts issues related to painting in our era.
