Replica statue of Socrates
Expertly crafted from resin, this ornament is based on a statuette housed in the British Museum’s collection. The marble figure represents the famous ancient Greek philosopher Socrates (c470-399 BC). The 2nd-3rd century original was discovered in Alexandria, and is thought to be a Hellenistic original or a Roman copy.
Socrates, born in Athens at a time when the city was synonymous with wisdom and learning, would become one of the founders of what is now thought of as philosophy, and was a great believer in the importance and power of the mind.
A handsome piece which will be perfectly at home on a desk or bookshelf.
